The City of Belmont has its origins in 1898, when the Belmont Road Board was formed. In 1961, it became Belmont Shire and was given City status in 1979. The City consists of three blocks - residential, industrial, and commercial, as well as the airport. Perth Airport, situated in the north eastern part of the City, serves as the gateway to Western Australia. At the centre of the City is Faulkner Park, where facilities such as the council office, library and museums are located. Belmont is the place where horse racing began in Western Australia, and it remains a major industry today.
