Taisho Memorial Road Monument
Name of facility | Taisho Memorial Road Monument |
Overview | Taisho Memorial Road was completed in November 1916 after the completion of the Arakawa canal (current the Arakawa), which stopped the water flowing, and the reclamation of the Nishikamonbori moat, which became unnecessary. The road stretched straight to the south from in front of Senju Okawacho Hikawa Shrine and extended as far as 1,052 meters to Bokutei-dori Street. When completed, it was the widest road in Senju. Taisho Memorial Road Monument was built to commemorate its completion, and it was named after the Emperor Taisho to commemorate his throne. The inscription describes the situation that led to the construction of this road in Chinese. The text of the inscription was selected by Ogai Mori, who lived in Senju. It was originally located in Senju-Miyamotocho, but was relocated to the current location in Senju-Nakaicho Park in April 2014. |
