Overview | The stone monument standing on the left side of the precincts was built in 1916. On which the details are inscribed, it is about the experience of the inhabitants of Motojuku who were forced to leave the cultivated land because the excavation of the Arakawa drainage channel was planned in the wake of the serious flood in 1910. The inscription of the founder, Suzuki Yokichi, describes the history and the feelings for his hometown in classical Chinese. His ancestors served the Takeda family of Kai, and they have lived there for more than 400 years since they cultivated this area in 1572. The 14th generation who never left the land even though they suffered the Tenmei Famine, were forced to leave there due to the construction work.
