Overview |
Kinryuzan Shumyo-in temple is the Soto sect of Buddhism. It is said to be founded in 1555. The temple is dedicated to Sho Kanzeon Bosatsu, the 50cm wood carving statue with gold leaf. In the precincts, there are three standing stones inscribed the year of 1672, 1712 and 1730, which have been designated as Adachi registered tangible folk cultural properties. In the cemetery, there is the graveyard of the Udagawa family. The family was a rich farmer in Odai for generations, but Genchu, a child of the fourth-generation Saburobe, became a Chinese medicine doctor at Edo Kajibashi. His grandson, Michinori (the first Genzui) became a first doctor who served Mimasaka-no-kuni Tsuyama Domain (current Tsuyama City, Okayama Prefecture), and then it lasted for three successive generations. The second Genzui (Kaien) became a Western medicine doctor and translated a Dutch medical book on internal medicine, and wrote "Western Internal Medicine Summary" in 18 volumes. He died in 1797, greatly contributing to internal medicine (his tomb is currently moved to Tsuyama City) |
