Engawa Cafe Showa House

Showa house is a Japanese-style house with a Western-style room built in 1939 and is a cafe that utilizes the deep engawa. It is also designated as a nationally registered tangible cultural property, and when you walk through the imposing gate to the entrance and take off your shoes, you will feel as if you are being invited to an old family.

“Hiroen or wide engawa was located on the south side of the Japanese-style room used as both a guest room and a living room and was a place to entertain guests. You can spend a relaxing time looking at the garden through the glass,” says owner Shigeru Hirata.

A part of the Japanese-style room is also open to the public as a cafe, and you can enjoy seeing the tasteful architectural design of the early Showa era up close, such as the glass doors and reed doors.

You can enjoy a relaxing time while enjoying freshly brewed coffee, matcha green tea, and Japanese and Western sweets in a space filled with tranquility and atmosphere.
