Engawa Cafe Showa House
Showa house is a Japanese-style house with a Western-style room built in 1939 and is a cafe that utilizes the deep engawa. It is also designated as a nationally registered tangible cultural property, and when you walk through the imposing gate to the entrance and take off your shoes, you will feel as if you are being invited to an old family.
“Hiroen or wide engawa was located on the south side of the Japanese-style room used as both a guest room and a living room and was a place to entertain guests. You can spend a relaxing time looking at the garden through the glass,” says owner Shigeru Hirata.
A part of the Japanese-style room is also open to the public as a cafe, and you can enjoy seeing the tasteful architectural design of the early Showa era up close, such as the glass doors and reed doors.
You can enjoy a relaxing time while enjoying freshly brewed coffee, matcha green tea, and Japanese and Western sweets in a space filled with tranquility and atmosphere.
A set of matcha green tea and seasonal Japanese sweets that are made after the order is placed. You can choose from 2-3 types of Japanese sweets. Matcha latte (hot or iced) is also a popular menu item.
You can choose from 2-3 types of tarts that change daily, and the crispy crust and mascarpone flavor harmonize with the fruit. Hand drip coffee has a deep taste.
You can see the beauty of Japanese architecture here and there, such as the design of the cast net pattern facing the shop entrance.

They serve many dishes including sashimi using silver salmon that can be eaten raw grown in Ishinomaki Bay in Miyagi Prefecture.
A dish that uses plenty of salmon roe and homemade steamed dumplings are also popular. He is particular about domestic sake and offers a wide variety of them. He regularly travels to rural areas and devotes himself to discovering new ingredients and high-quality sake.

Orto
This creative dining room is located on the first floor of Sentsuku 2, which opened in December 2022 as part of the second project to revitalize vacant houses to create connections with the community.
The owner, Hiroshi Matsuo, opened his long-awaited charcoal-grilled restaurant after more than 20 years of experience as a chef. “I wanted to offer the deliciousness of charcoal-grilled food at my restaurant,” he says.
In addition to grilled pork, beef, and lamb, as well as lightly broiled domestic red chicken, they also focus on vegetable dishes. Onions ordered from the producer in Awaji Island are very delicious when eating raw or cooked. There are many families on weekends, and the menu such as pasta is also popular.
