Sunny days and rainy days

Kobayashi says he has loved making sweets since he was a child. Encouraged by a friend who said, "This will sell!", he started selling handmade baked goods at markets and other places about five years ago. He set up a workshop in January 2024 and opens the store several times a month.

The shelves are mainly lined with tofu muffins and cookies, and they usually have four or five varieties of each. In order to make "things that are kind to the body," they do not use eggs or dairy products, and whenever possible use domestic, pesticide-free ingredients. They have a reputation for being safe for even small children and those with chronic illnesses to eat. "Some people don't even realize that it's made with tofu," says the muffin dough, which is moist and simple, but still allows the flavor of the ingredients to come through. They also don't use paper cups to prevent children from accidentally eating them, and the sweets are packaged cutely, making them perfect gifts.

At the time of the interview, the "Sweet Potato and Pumpkin Tofu Muffin" was on sale for 350 yen. It was filled with plenty of ingredients.
"Brandy Fig and Darjeeling Tofu Muffin" 350 yen (back right), "Rice Flour Snowball" 350 yen (back left), "Purple Sweet Potato Maple Biscuit" 300 yen (back center), etc.
Kobayashi is wearing the original "No TOFU Muffin, No Life." sweatshirt.

Taiyaki 117 (Taiyaki Iina)

As a child, the owner, Miyoshi, encountered a taiyaki shop beloved by local residents as a local hub, and dreamed of opening a shop like it someday. After training at a shop in Asakusa, he made his long-held dream come true by opening Taiyaki 117 in 2017.

"If I'm going to eat it myself, I try not to give up on what I think is best," says the owner of the taiyaki, which has a fluffy, thick batter and is very satisfying. In addition to the classic "Specially Selected Ogura" and "Rich Custard," the "Quick Chocolate" is a big hit with the neighborhood kids. Milk chocolate flakes are mixed into the bitter chocolate cream, and the texture adds an addictive taste.

Miyoshi-san says that he values communication with his customers. The shop has a relaxed, homey atmosphere and is also a place where neighbors can share information.

"Specially Selected Ogura" 200 yen and "Quick Chocolate" 220 yen. There are also seasonal limited menus.
The inside of the "Sakutto Choco" is made of a thick dough that remains delicious even when cooled.
Miyoshi efficiently bakes the taiyaki one after the other.

Wakabado Manufacturing Co., Ltd.

This is a take-out-only Western confectionery shop that opened in 2022. In addition to selling cakes and baked goods offered at the popular Cafe Wakabado, also located in Kita-Senju, the shop also offers a wide range of original products.

There are about 12 kinds of cakes and about 20 kinds of baked goods lined up in the display case. Several kinds of scones and muffins are baked daily, and many regulars return for their favorite flavors. The scones are moist and just the right amount of sweet. Many of them combine multiple ingredients, such as "rum raisins and chocolate" and "cheese and black pepper," so you'll never get tired of the flavor, no matter how many you eat.

"After having lunch at the cafe, many people come here to buy sweets to take home or as gifts," says store manager Araki. The menu is rich in variety and extremely convenient, making it a useful choice for a variety of occasions.

"Rum raisin and chocolate scone" 360 yen, "fig and tea scone" 380 yen, "cheese and black pepper scone" 400 yen.
Birthday cakes are also accepted, and in addition to the standard shortcake and chocolate gateau, you can also order a whole cake of your choice.
