Name of facility Konzo-ji temple
Overview Hikawasan-Jizoin-Konzo-ji temple is the Buzan school of Shingon Buddhism. It is said that the temple was founded in 1335 and dedicated to Enma Daio (the Great King Yama). There are two tombstones inscribed Namu Amida Butsu and unrelated tomb on them just on the left after entering the precincts. They are registered as tangible cultural assets in Adachi. The one inscribed Namu Amida Butsu on it, is the memorial tomb of prostitutes worked at Senju inn. The owner and the locals built the tomb to hold a memorial service for their departed soul. The another one is the memorial tomb of those who died during a famine in 1837. It was built in 1839 by an organizer, Nagano hikoemon who was the chief of a village in 2-chome Senju at that time. According to the inscription, there were 828 people died of illness or weakness in Senju during a famine, though they were given food at a public facility for relief activities. The dead were buried in four temples in Senju.
