Overview The member of the Shinsengumi or shogunate forces including Kondo isami and Hijikata toshizo, were stationed at Goheishinden (current 4,7-chome Ayase, 4-chome Nishi-Ayase, 3-chome Aoi etc.) from the night of March 13th to April 1st in 1868. At first there were 48 people gathered, but the number of people increased daily, and finally reached 227 people. Kaneko sanai residence was the center of the station at that time. (The master was Kaneko kenjuro) The grounds of the residence covered an area of about 10,000 square meters, and the floor space was about 460 square meters. Although it seemed large enough to accommodate, people had to be stationed separately at three places, Kannon-ji temple in the village, Another residence of Kaneko family and Takijiro residence. They moved from there in haste on April 1st after hearing the news that the imperial army went into Senju station and caught a soldier. On the following day, they transferred the camp and stationed at Shimousa-Nagareyama (current Nagareyama City in Chiba prefecture) According to tradition, Kondo isami gave his photo and some money to Kaneko kenzo, when he left.
