Amidah-in temple

Name of facility Amidah-in temple
Overview Kanrosan Amidah-in Anyo-ji temple is the Chisan School of the Shingon Sect of Buddhism. It is said to have been founded in 1782. The principal image, Amida Nyorai statue was made by Eshin sozu. The current main hall and the kitchen were built in 1965 when the precincts were developed in good condition. Stone objects, such as Japanese pagoda, stupa and etc. were moved here when the maintenance of the precincts and the land readjustment were done. There is the Fudo-do hall in the back of the precincts and the religious lectures of Narita-san are given on the 28th of January, May and September every year. The one given on May 28th, so-called a million times prayer is still continued by the locals in Oshibe (current· Eastern Shikahama) from the Edo period. This is currently held on the nearest Sunday of May 28 every year. It is an event to chant a million times over "Nan Manda" while turning big beads about 4 meters in diameter with a dozen people (Actually, it is counted as one thousand times per one Nembutsu). Although temporarily interrupted during the war, it has revived and still continues today (Adachi Intangible Folk Cultural Asset).
